Natalia Awenius
Natalia Awenius is a renowned visual artist and graphic designer whose work fuses traditional techniques with contemporary forms of expression. Born in 1971 in Novosibirsk, Siberia (Russia), she received an academic education in the arts and has been actively exhibiting her work since the early 2000s. Her first solo exhibition was held in 2004 at the German-Russian Cultural Center in Novosibirsk. Over the years, Natalia has participated in numerous regional and international exhibitions in galleries, embassies, and state museums across Russia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Spain. Her works have been featured multiple times at the State Art Museum of Novosibirsk and the Regional Art Museum of Tomsk, as well as at prestigious events such as the Mini Print International in Barcelona.
A central focus of her artistic practice lies in abstract art. Her work explores the inner energy of form through color, line, and texture, often creating compositions that are both meditative and charged with tension. She is known for combining techniques such as monotype, etching, collage, and acrylics, and for her sensitivity to the materiality of the surface. In her own words:
"I'm not interested in depicting the object — but in what lies beyond its form: the breath, the impulse, the trace."
Awenius’ work often evokes natural rhythms, symbolic thinking, and emotional states. While rooted in academic discipline, her approach remains fluid and experimental, engaging viewers in a subtle dialogue between presence and absence, movement and stillness. Together with Werner Awenius, she co-founded the A2 Gallery in Potsdam (Lindenstraße 53, 14467 Potsdam), which serves as a platform for contemporary art. The gallery showcases works by both established and emerging artists, supporting cultural dialogue and artistic innovation.
Natalia’s works are held in private collections across Germany, Russia, and beyond. In addition to her artistic practice, she occasionally takes part in cross-disciplinary collaborations and cultural initiatives aimed at making art more accessible to broader audiences.
